Hodaka Days 2026 - Dates and Hotel Information

The annual Hodaka Days celebration will be held once again on the customary last FULL weekend in June - June 25 -28 in Weston and Athena, Oregon.

The planning committee met in Pendleton January 31st to work through details and address rising costs, particularly insurance.

The usual activities are all planned including the poker run, trail ride, swap meet, parade, bike show, auction, trials, and MX.

Once again, we have partnered with the Red Lion Hotel in Pendleton for a limited number of rooms at special group rates, starting at $99 a night excluding taxes. New for 2026, room rates will include a breakfast buffet. Be sure to talk to the local Pendleton Red Lion front desk (not national Red Lion corporate) and ask for the "Special Hodaka Days Rates".

Make your reservations early. Hodaka Days is the same weekend as the Jackalope Jamboree country music festival in the area, and rooms can get expensive and be hard to come by.

Once again, we have procured a limited number of rooms at the Red Lion Hotel in Pendleton for Hodaka Days attendees. By using our sponsor hotel, you’re adding to our collective bargaining power and allow us to negotiate these low rates.

There is a restaurant on site, but it has been closed since the pandemic and may not be open by June. They do have a pool.

Insurance rates for all kinds of coverage are up. Hodaka Days unfortunately is no exception.

Along with a hefty increase in our insurance rates this year, we have new requirements stipulated as part of the policy.

All attendees and participants will be required to sign an AMA liability release form. Not just riders, but spectators, vendors, and campers too. This is different from previous years when only those involved in riding events were required to sign a release.

There are separate and unique liability releases for each sanctioned event. The events are listed below:

1. Rally (Sanction #83663): Includes camping BBQ, banquet, swap meet, parade, poker run, trail ride, misc. social activities (e.g., Ice cream social) – All participants, volunteers, and spectators
2. Trials School (Sanction #84319): All participants, volunteers, and spectators
3. Observed Trial (Sanction #83666): All participants, volunteers, and spectators
4. MX (Sanction #83669): All participants, volunteers, and spectators

This will just be an inconvenience for adults. They can just sign the release at the event. But it could be a “showstopper” for minors if they aren’t accompanied by both parents or don’t have the proper paperwork prepared in advance. (See section below.).

LIABILITY RELEASES (WAIVERS) FOR MINORS

If both parents will be in attendance, then they can just sign the minor release at the event. If not, then the minor must have proof of a current annual release on file with the AMA or they must bring a liability release form for each event that they will be attending or participating in that has been signed by both parents and NOTARIZED.

Releases for minors MUST be signed by both parents (if applicable). Remember there is a different release for each of the sanctioned events listed above. If you’re planning to attend all the events at Hodaka Days – Rally, trials school, observed trial, and MX – you will need four signed releases.

If no legal guardian will be attending the event (attending with only a friend or relative), we’ll also need a NOTARIZED Guardianship Affidavit appointing an attending adult as a guardian for the time of the event. Only one guardianship affidavit is required.

Minors must have the proper liability release paperwork, including the Guardianship Affidavit to attend or participate in any of the sanctioned events. We cannot make exceptions.

The forms needed can be downloaded at www.hodakaclub.org. They are on the main page under “Hodaka Days 2025 Forms”. Be sure to download the correct release. Each release is unique to a specific event.

Or you can earn a credit for volunteering to help with an event.

Ask for your Iron Man card and get it punched at any event. Then have the crew punch your card as you participate in additional events. After your fifth event, turn in your card for your Iron Man patch or, if you’ve already proved your "metal" in prior years, you can get a “2025” rocker patch to go with your previous award.

Looking for a Hodaka Days Auctioneer

Saturday night at Hodaka Days is auction night. And unfortunately, our "regular" auctioneers won't be able to attend this year.

Are you an experienced auctioneer? Maybe professional? Maybe just for your church, school, or club. If you are, we could use your help.

We usually have about 12 – 15 items for the event and you’ll have an experienced, hardworking, and knowledgeable staff to display the items, watch for bidders, and keep track of the prices and the winners.

It’s fun and this may be your chance for your 15 minutes of fame. And, as an added bonus, you get to go straight to the front of the dinner banquet line, so you don’t have to rush through your dinner.

You'll have fun it and be rewarded with the sincere gratitude of your fellow Hodaka Club members.

I know Hodaka people are some of the most honest there are, so I have high hopes this will be returned to the owner.

Attention Hodaka Days Trials Riders

Hodaka Days trials start at 8:30AM sharp Saturday June 29. If you’re not registered and ready to go at that time, you may find yourself a spectator instead of a participant.

Avoid the Saturday morning rush and be prepared. Take advantage of pre-registration on Friday afternoon between 1:00 and 4:00 PM. You can take care of your liability release, class choice, and number assignment all in just a few minutes.

And don’t forget to have your AMA card to present when registering. We cannot just take your AMA number verbally. If you don’t have a current AMA membership, you can purchase or renew it at pre-registration or better yet, go to www.americanmotorcyclist.com or call 800-AMA-JOIN and take care of it online before Hodaka Days.

Travel, Lodging, Food, Safety Requirements, & Important Paperwork

PLEASE READ

TRAVEL - PLANNING ON COMING FOR THE FIRST TIME? AIRPORTS NEAR ATHENA - Pendleton, OR (PDT), about 20 miles south, service by Boutique Air, some rental cars available. Walla Walla, WA (ALW), 25 miles north, service by Alaska/Horizon, some rental cars available. Pasco, WA (PSC), about 65 miles northeast, service by Alaska/Horizon, United shuttle, Delta, car rental agencies. Portland, OR (PDX), closest MAJOR airport, 3.5-hour drive west, via spectacular Columbia Gorge.

LODGING – Hotels - There are no motels in Athena. The Red Lion Hotel in Pendleton is the official hotel of Hodaka Days. Call 541-276-6111 and ask for special Hodaka Days rates. Special rates must be booked by June 13th!

Camping is available at the Athena City Park, which has a pool house with showers which will be available for campers. Please, no camping or parking on the grass on the school grounds.

For RVs, parking is available just across a footbridge from the park. There are a limited number of electrical and water hookups for RVs; no wastewater hookups are available. Additional parking is available in the high school parking lot across the street, but there are no hooks – “dry camping”. There are several full-service RV parks within reasonable driving distance. FOOD - There are a limited number of food options in Athena, so you may want to bring some snacks and breakfast food, especially if camping. The One Stop has sandwiches, burgers, a hot case, etc. and also sells a limited number of items from the Skippers Sea Food chain menu. The Athena Grocery has Sandwiches, Pizza, Wraps, a hot case, and an on-site bakery. And the Long Branch restaurant is located across highway 11and three miles east, in Weston.

Our caterer, Calvert’s Sugar Shack on Main Street in Athena will be open from 7 am - 2 pm Saturday and from 7 am – noon Sunday. They have soups, sandwiches, salads, and hot meal specials. They will also have prepared sandwiches, salads, muffins and drinks available in the park for lunch Saturday 11 am- 1:30 pm. And serving coffee and breakfast snacks at the MX on Sunday.

They’ll be catering the Saturday evening awards dinner at the Athena elementary school cafeteria and courtyard. Dinner will include sliced roast pork loin, salad, roasted potatoes, dessert and iced tea or lemonade, tickets will be $22 each.

BAD ROCK SIGNUP- Worried about the difficulty of the big, bad, Bad Rock trail ride? Although we do get to cover some of the “sacred ground” as the original ISDT qualifier from the ‘70’s and it’s not a “walk in the park”, this is not meant to be a test of endurance for you or your bike. Don’t let the name scare you off. It’s about a 50-mile ride with “social stops” to relax with fellow riders, through country roads up into the Blue Mountains. Street legality is not required, though spark arrestors are. Registration is now open to the public, so pass the word to your friends, neighbors, and fellow dirt bike enthusiasts. STILL SEEKING AUCTION DONATIONS – For both good fun and to help finance HD’24, the Saturday swap meet, and evening awards banquet include auctioning off contributions from vendors and participants. Got cool parts (used, in good condition is OK), Hodaka memorabilia, a special Hodaka project, or services you are willing to donate? Bring them to the Club booth in the park on Friday or Saturday morning, so we can display and auction them off. Donors will be credited as sponsors and help us keep going!

HELP, HELP, HELP! – “Many hands make light work” is so true. We’re always in need of volunteer helpers at Hodaka Days. We need help managing waivers, installing banners, moving tables & chairs, moving parade barriers, putting up track fencing, serving ice cream… You get the picture! If you can offer some help, our highly paid (occasional free beer) executive staff really appreciate it. Watch for a follow up email listing specific tasks that we need volunteers for. Or just let us know when you arrive and/or check in at the club park booth. A few hours of volunteer time enable all of us to enjoy the week more.

IMPORTANT DETAILS & PAPERWORK! Hodaka Days insurance is provided through the American Motorcycle Association, which requires:

FULL FACE HELMETS AND GOGGLES - If you’re planning to race MX – or even just practice – per AMA requirements for racing, you must wear a full-face helmet and goggles, no one will be allowed on the track without one! Open face helmets are OK for all other events.

RELEASES (WAIVERS) FOR MINORS– Releases must be signed by both parents (if applicable). There is one releases for recreational events (poker run, trail ride, and parade); MX and trials each have a separate form. If you need a release and both parents – with legal custody – won’t be at Hodaka Days, the needed forms can be downloaded at www.hodakaclub.org and must be notarized if signatures can’t be witnessed at the event! If no legal guardian will be attending the event, we’ll need a notarized letter authorizing an attending adult as a guardian for the event.

AMA MEMBERSHIP– Required for trials, MX track practice or MX racing. Membership can be renewed on-line at www.americanmotorcyclist.com. Forms for single annual ($39) or single event membership ($20). Annual membership is only $9 more than two (trials and track activity) single‑event memberships and covers both trials and track activity, as well as other AMA events for 12 months. Please sign up or renew online ahead of time to reduce the bottleneck during the trials and MX signups.

EVENT ENTRY FORM – All participants in the poker run, Bad Rock ride or parade need to complete an “Event Entry Form”, which provides demographic information we submit to AMA. The form can be downloaded at www.hodakaclub.org .One form covers all of the previously mentioned events; once we have a completed form, you’ll receive a gold wrist band and won’t need to complete another one for the other events. If you can fill out the attached form in advance and bring it to the event, it will save you time during registration.

Over the last several years, we're had to compete for accommodations with folks going the big "Jackalope Jamboree" music festival. So, demand for rooms is high and available rooms are limited.

Our group rates are $121 for single king and $136 for double kings. Make sure you are talking to someone at the hotel and not the corporate reservation desk. You should be able to just tell them you want the special Hodaka Days rate. There's no promo code or anything like that. If for some reason they have problems, ask to talk to Cheryl or Lauren.

Hodaka Days 2024 Special Guests

We’re excited to announce some Special Guests for Hodaka Days this year.

Making his first trip to Hodaka Days, will be “That guy” riding the XS11 in the opening sequence of the award-winning Peter Starr film, “Take it to the Limit”, Don Emde. Don is an AMA Hall of Fame member, Daytona 200 Winner, and former Hodaka road racer.

Also making the journey, a long-time friend of Hodaka, Washington State Motorcycle Hall of Fame member, and former factory Team Bultaco rider, Ron Pomeroy.

Another Hodaka fan favorite joining the fun will be 1978 US MX des Nations team member, former factory Team Honda rider, and Hodaka MX racer, Tommy Croft.

And… all the way from Australia, VMX Magazine editor and author of “Hodaka – the Complete History of America’s Favorite Trail Bike”, Ken Smith. There will be a limited supply of Ken’s book available at the event. This is your chance to get a signed copy.

Welcome to Bad Rock 2024.

All makes of "vintage"* - twin shock, air cooled, drum brake - bikes welcome!

This is your chance to ride through some of the back country and actual trails used during the original Bad Rock ISDT qualifiers of the 1970's. This is where Hodaka motorcycles were designed, developed and put to the ultimate test.

The event takes off from the intersection of Broad and High Street in the historic town of Weston, Oregon, approximately four miles east of Athena.

It's about a 50-mile course, designed to be an easy ride for someone who has not been riding regularly or who wants to protect their investment in some of those hard to find Hodaka parts. The club will provide a trailer at several points along the route to transport bikes with mechanical problems or bikes of riders who, for whatever reason, just don't wish to finish the course.

This event is an AMA sanctioned recreational event. You do not need to be an AMA member to participate. However, without the help of the AMA, we could not afford to put on events like this and we encourage you to consider joining. Their web site is www.americanmotorcyclist.com.

You need to pre-register. This ride is limited to 150 entries and will be open to all makes of vintage (twin shock, drum brake, air cooled) bikes. Sorry, due to insurance restrictions, no passengers allowed.

Fee is $25 for Hodaka Club members and $30 for non-members and must be paid via PayPal at time of registration or we must receive payment within two weeks of signup if you request an invoice.

*Kids may ride "modern" bikes providing they are 14 years or younger, riding bikes 100cc or smaller, and accompanied by an adult on a qualifying vintage bike. The ride coordinator may make additional exceptions to the "vintage" rule for ISDT/ISDE veterans and legends.

As in several prior years, we've made arrangement for a group rate at the Red Lion Hotel in Pendleton. And as in the last several years, we're competing for accommodations with folks going the big "Jackalope Jamboree" music festival. So, demand for rooms is high.

Our group rates are $121 for single king and $136 for double queens. Make sure you are talking to someone at the hotel and not the corporate reservation desk. You should be able to just tell them you want the special Hodaka Days rate. There's no promo code or anything like that. If for some reason they have problems, ask to talk to Cheryl.

For those of you still wondering...

Hodaka Days is ALWAYS Thursday - Sunday of the last FULL weekend in June. In other words, the Sunday of Hodaka Days always falls on the last Sunday in June.

So, Hodaka Days 2024 is scheduled for June 27 - 30 back in Athena and Weston Oregon.

Please note that, as usual, we are still in the process of getting "formal approval" from local municipalities, land owners, and other misc. parties at this time.

Athena American Legion says "Thank You".

The Athena chapter of the American Legion has asked us to pass along their thanks to all those that attended their Saturday morning pancake breakfast. It was a big success again this year and the money raised will be used to purchase new flags to line Athena's main street during holiday celebrations.

They plan to feed us all next year again, so bring your Hodaka and bring your appetite.

We’re trying to put together some photos and an article for VMX magazine on the Rickman Hodakas and we’d like to get pictures and backgrounds on several examples for the article.

Hodaka Days is less than two weeks away and we still need volunteers to staff some critical positions.

In addition to the sincere gratitude of the planning committee and having the satisfaction of helping your fellow Hodaka enthusiasts, your can earn points toward your Hodaka Days Iron Man patch.

A few things to remember to make sure you get the most out of your time at Hodaka Days

Review this list to be sure you have everything you need to participate in your favorite events.

1. Bring your AMA card if you want to compete

Competition events (trials and MX) are for AMA members only. You must be an AMA member if you want to participate. Bring your AMA card with you to present at signup.

If you’re not already an AMA member, you can join at their website www.americanmotorcyclist.com. An annual membership is $49. A single event membership is $20.

Although we will have AMA memberships available at signup, we strongly encourage participants to sign up online to avoid long waits at signup.

2. Have your AMA Event Entry Form filled out and ready to hand to the volunteer at your first recreational event

Fill out the AMA Event Entry Form and sign one liability waiver. You get the coveted gold wristband and you’re done!

If you forget, we will have Event Entry Forms available at the Hodaka Club booth, and at the poker run, trail ride, and parade staging area before each of these events

Once we have your completed AMA Event Entry Form and a signed liability waiver, we’ll give you a gold wristband. Keep the gold wrist band on and you will not be asked to complete paperwork for any of our sanctioned recreational activities again at Hodaka Days.

3. Renew your AMA and Club memberships ahead of time online

If you’re going to compete in trials or MX you need to be an AMA member. Hodaka Club members not only support Hodaka Days and the Hodaka Museum and benefit from great stories and technical information in the club newsletter, they also enjoy reduced entry fees to all the events at Hodaka Days.

Although both AMA and Hodaka Club memberships will be available at Hodaka Days, we encourage everyone to sign up ahead of time at the AMA and Hodaka Club web sites http://www.americanmotorcyclist.com and www.hodakaclub.org to save time for not only themselves, but also for our volunteers,

4. Bring the proper equipment if you want to race MX

AMA safety rules have changed in the last few years. If you want to race MX (or even ride practice laps), you’ll need to have the proper equipment. AMA requires all riders to wear a full-face helmet and face shield or goggles. If you do not have a full-face helmet equipped with a face shield or a full-face helmet with goggles, you will not be allowed on the track – no exceptions. Eye glasses do not qualify as “goggles”.

5. Make sure you have the completed paperwork for any minors that will be participating in any riding events – even as a passenger

Our insurance requires both parents to sign any waiver for minors. Please don’t pressure our volunteers to make an exception. To do so could void our insurance coverage. We simply can’t do it, unless you have sole custody of the minor.

If you are bringing a minor and both parents are not able to attend the event, please complete the appropriate minor waiver forms. The form for all recreational events (poker run and/or the trail ride and/or the parade) can be found here. Since all of our recreational events fall under a “Road Rally”, the single form can serve as a release for all three events. The form for the observed trials can be found here, and the form for the MX (whether you will be racing or just want to ride practice laps) can be found here.

Unless the forms are completed at Hodaka Days in front of an authorized club representative, any completed forms must also be witnessed and notarized to be accepted at the event. NOTE: Even though there is no specific spot on the competition form for a notary to sign, it must also be notarized.

In summary:

1. Have your AMA card with you, if you are riding trials or racing MX

2. Have your event entry form filled out and ready to hand to the volunteer at your first recreational event.

3. Have your AMA membership and Hodaka club membership renewed ahead of time.
4. Have a full-face helmet and face shield or goggles, if you are racing MX.
5. Have the proper paperwork for any minors that will be riding
6. Have fun!

Hodaka Days 2023 Dates Confirmed

Although the official planning meeting has been postponed until after the first of the year, the decision has been made to go ahead and hold Hodaka Days on the regularly scheduled dates of the last full weekend in June again next year.

For 2023 that would be June 22 - 25 in Athena and Weston Oregon.

Plans are in the early stages and all activities are, of course, dependent on approval of the involved public entities and land owners.

Got Another Gate and Need Another Volunteer

We recently found out that, on the Bad Rock trail ride, we have an additional gate that needs to be opened and closed as riders pass through.

And so... we are looking for one more volunteer on Friday to manage this gate. Ideally you would have a bike to ride out to the gate - less than 10 miles from Weston, but you can reach the gate in any car with reasonable ground clearance.

Just heard that, due to COVID related health concerns and staffing shortages, the restaurant and lounge at the Red Lion Hotel in Pendleton (Hodaka Days recommended lodging), will not be open for the Hodaka Days weekend.

If you are planning on staying at the hotel, you may want to do some research and investigate other dining options in the local area.

Among other options, there is a Shari's restaurant within easy walking distance from the hotel.

There will be sandwiches, salads, chips, and drinks available from Calvert’s Sugar Shack in the park Saturday and Sunday for lunch. There will also be a pancake breakfast in Athena at the American Legion Hall Saturday morning starting at 6:30 AM and, of course, the Hodaka Days dinner Saturday night at 6:30 PM.

We are currently looking for folks to volunteer for some of the early activities at Hodaka Days.

We still need up to three additional people to staff the checkpoints for the poker run on Thursday June 23^rd between2:00 and 5:00 PM. Previous experience not necessary. You just need to sit at table at the side of the road and record the poker hands of the participants.

We also need up to two more people to be gatekeepers for the Bad Rock trail ride on Friday between 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM. Again, no previous experience necessary. Your duty will be to open and close the gates for the riders so the landowner’s livestock don’t escape. These two gates are in idyllic locations in beautiful spots near a creek. Plenty of time to enjoy nature, relax, and enjoy a good book.

Because these two events are early in the schedule, we have limited time to recruit for the positions at the event. We are looking for people who can commit ahead of time.

CELEBRATION OF LIFE OF CHUCK SWANSON – At 1:30 pm Saturday, a celebration of the life of Chuck Swanson will be held in the Athena City Park. The last General Manager of PABATCO, Chuck passed away this past December. We will gather to remember the quiet, gentle friend who is greatly missed. While we can’t distill Chuck’s life and contributions into a short service, this will offer an opportunity for friends and family to share brief personal stories or favorite memories of our times with “Swannie,” the host of more than 20 ice cream socials at Hodaka Days past, inveterate tinkerer and all-around fascinating man. All are welcome.

A BRIEF OVERVIEW OF HD’22 EVENTS

UMATILLA COUNTY TT AND POKER RUN – Thursday 6/23 – 50 miles of winding rural roads and historic communities for licensed, street-legal, 250cc or less vintage (twin shock, drum brake, air cooled) bikes. Not restricted to Hodakas; passengers meeting legal requirements permitted.

BAD ROCK TRAIL RIDE- 50-mile ride via country roads into the Blue Mountains where the historic Bad Rock ISDT Qualifiers were run for all vintage (twin shock, drum brake, air cooled). Not restricted to Hodakas, special arrangements allow trail bikes (street licensure not required) but USFS approved spark arrestors are mandatory.

MAIN STREET PARADE – Follow a County Sheriff on his one-of-a-kind Hodaka police special, past the assembled citizenry down Main Street Athena, with 100 of your best (Hodaka) friends! Passengers under 14 are OK, with parental consent; sorry, no riders under 14.

BIKE SHOW- 19 classes for Hodaka or Yamaguchi powered cycles only on display in the park. Originals, cool modified bikes, special one-off oddball constructs… see them all, and show off your Hodie!

OBSERVED TRIALS – Novice, intermediate, expert and trail bike classes for Hodakas and Club Members only. AMA membership and waivers required. (see below).

SWAP MEET, SILENT AUCTION AND SALE – Bring your goodies to sell or hunt for rare treasures among vendors, sponsor-donated Club offerings and, who knows what? All in the shade of Athena Park’s giant trees.

BANQUET DINNER, AWARDS PRESENTATION AND AUCTION- Saturday evening dinner, drinks (non-alcoholic) & desert for $15, award presentations for event winners and club service awards, plus a few selected, choice items contributed by sponsors and members will be auctioned off.

MEET THE LEGENDS – HD’22 is a great opportunity to meet some of the fascinating folks in motorcycle - and especially Hodaka - history!

Eric Jensen, (three-time ISDT medal winner, as well as an early Hodaka dealer and manufacturer of the famous Jensen specialty Hodaka parts.) Eric will be hosting a Service Seminar Two Stroke Basics and Troubleshooting Friday afternoon. **Additionally, Eric will be showing (and selling!) a very few newly remade Jensen cylinders, pistons and heads for Hodaka 100s! Power and cooling not available since the 1960s, now at Hodaka Days! **

Lee Fabry (SoCal & Baja, and now our most celebrated and knowledgeable creator of special, one of a kind Hodakas, who has stepped up to take leadership of the Saturday bike show);

Peter Starr, AMA Hall of Fame member, recognized as the top producer of motorcycle pix in the world. Peter’s work includes “Take it to the Limit” and “Bad Rock”, about the ISDT Qualifier in Weston Oregon , which he produced after consultation with Hodaka.

PABATCO/Hodaka staff -Jim Gentry, Parts, Service and Warranty Manager at PABATCO in “the day”; “Jeanie” Trout, original executive secretary and Personnel Manager at PABATCO; and Marvin Foster, Promotion Department Manager (and source of much of the famous Hodaka Humor – “a Dirt Squirt?”) - Foster was the original Hodaka Baja rider, 1000 miles, over 30 days on an Ace 90.

MX RACING– Classic scrambles style racing in “suburban” Athena wraps up the weekend Sunday! Must be 14 or older, racing muffler or USFS approved spark arrestor, AMA membership and waivers required (see below). Calvert’s Sugar Shack will offer morning sustenance coffee and muffins/cinnamon rolls at the track from 8 to 9:30 morning; with sandwiches and sodas from 11am to 1 pm. .

Camping is available at the Athena City Park, which has a pool house with showers which will be available for campers. Please, no camping in the grass on school grounds.

For RVs, parking is available just across a footbridge from the park. There are a limited number of electrical and water hookups for RVs; no waste water hookups are available. There is a small RV park in Athena and several full-service RV parks within reasonable driving distance. FOOD - There are a limited number of food options in Athena, so you may want to bring some snacks and breakfast food, especially if camping.

We have a new caterer, Calvert’s Sugar Shack on Main Street in Athena. They will be open from 7 am - 2 pm Saturday; from 7 am – noon Sunday. They will also prepare sandwiches, salads, muffins and drinks, which will be available in the park Saturday 11 am- 1:30 pm.

They’ll be catering the Saturday evening awards dinner at the Athena elementary school cafeteria and courtyard. Dinner will include pulled pork or chicken sandwiches, coleslaw, roasted potatoes, desert and iced tea or lemonade, tickets will be $15 each. In light of covid-19 concerns, if you want to be assured of outside seating, you may want to bring your own chair & folding table.

BAD ROCK SIGNUP- Worried about the difficulty of the big, bad, Bad Rock trail ride? Although we do get to cover some of the “sacred ground” as the original ISDT qualifier from the ‘70’s, this is not meant to be a test of endurance for you or your bike. Don’t let the name scare you off. Today’s version will be a 50-mile ride with “social stops” to relax with fellow riders, through country roads up into the Blue Mountains. Street legality is not required, though spark arrestors are. Registration is now open to the public, so pass the word to your friends, neighbors, and fellow dirt bike enthusiasts. STILL SEEKING AUCTION DONATIONS – For both good fun and to help finance HD’22, the Saturday swap meet and evening awards banquet include auctioning off contributions from vendors and participants. Got cool parts (used, in good condition is OK), Hodaka memorabilia, a special Hodaka project, or services you are willing to donate? Bring them to the Club booth in the park Friday or Saturday morning, so we can display and auction them off. Donors will be credited as sponsors, and help us keep going!

HELP, HELP, HELP! – “Many hands make light work” is so true. We’re always in need of volunteer helpers at Hodaka Days. We need help managing waivers, installing banners, moving tables & chairs, moving parade barriers, putting up track fencing, serving ice cream… You get the picture! If you can offer some help, our highly paid (occasional free beer) executive staff really appreciates it. Let us know when you arrive and/or check in at the Club Park booth. A few hours of volunteer time enable all of us to enjoy the week more.

IMPORTANT DETAILS & PAPERWORK! Hodaka Days insurance is provided by the American Motorcycle Association, which requires:

HELMETS- If you’re planning to race MX – or even just practice – per AMA requirements for racing. you must wear a full-face helmet, no one will be allowed on the track without one! Open face helmets are OK for all other events.

WAIVERS FOR MINORS– Waivers must be signed by both parents (if applicable). There is one waiver for recreational events (poker run, trail ride, and parade); MX and Trials each have a separate form. If you need a waiver and both parents – with legal custody – won’t be at HD’22, the needed forms can be downloaded at www.hodakaclub.org and must be notarized if signatures can’t be witnessed at the event! If no legal guardian will be attending the event, we’ll need a notarized letter authorizing an attending adult as a guardian for the event.

AMA MEMBERSHIP– Required for trials, track practice or racing. Membership can be renewed on-line at www.americanmotorcyclist.com. Forms for single event membership ($20) are only available at the event; an annual membership (available in advance from AMA) is only $9 more than two (trials and track activity) single‑event memberships and covers both trials and track activity, as well as other AMA events.

EVENT ENTRY FORM – All participants in the poker run, Bad Rock ride or parade need to complete an “Event Entry Form”, which provides demographic information we submit to AMA. The form can be downloaded at www.hodakaclub.org.One form covers all events; once we have a completed form at HD’22, you’ll receive a gold wrist band and won’t need to complete another one for additional events. If you can fill out the attached form in advance and bring it to the event, it will save you time during registration.

Riders from the vintage " no-stop" era often rode in their Sunday best.

it's in that spirit we will award this new "Best Dressed" trophy, chosen by our panel of experts, to the trials rider who is dressed in the finest era appropriate riding attire.

PLANNING ON COMING FOR THE FIRST TIME? AIRPORTS NEAR ATHENA:

Need transport for your bike to Athena? As in previous years, Hodaka Club member Dan Killian is offering bike transport out to or back from Hodaka Days. He can do pick-ups and deliveries along the route, out and back on I-80, swinging north or south of that route some.

Service Seminar - Two Stroke Basics and Troubleshooting by Eric Jensen

As Eric himself tells it, “At 18 years of age, with a $600 investment, I had a crate of Hodakas (two bikes), a parts kit, a business permit from the city, and a hole in the pit of my stomach” as he became a Hodaka dealer! This was the beginning of a career devoted to motorcycles, riding (multiple Baja 500/1000 and other desert wins, capped with three ISDT medals on Pentons!), operating Super Cycle in SoCal, and along the way, designing and producing a veritable bevy of special, high performance Hodaka parts, including a large aluminum square barrel cylinder, radial-fin head to match, and his own pistons, along with the usual porting, hop-up, pipes, suspension and engine services for every brand he sold.

Friday afternoon will provide an opportunity to enjoy an open discussion under the trees in Athena Park with one of the most creative, engaging Hodaka legends.

Celebrating “Fun in the Dirt Since 1964” with more fun than anything else you can do with your britches on, we’ll be again holding the communities of Athena and Weston, Oregon hostage.

Thursday, 6/23 – Umatilla County TT and Poker Run

A fifty-mile poker run over the winding back roads of Eastern Oregon for street legal, vintage bikes (twin shock, air cooled, drum brakes), 250cc and less (not restricted to Hodakas). We’ll visit the historic towns of Adams, Helix and Holdman.elix and HoldmanH Bring your camera.

This ride will be on state highways and other county roads, so bikes must be licensed and riders must have a valid motorcycle endorsement. Trophies for best poker hands, 1st through 5th. Passengers that meet all legal requirements are allowed. Registration fee $30 or $25 for club members.

Friday 6/24 – Bad Rock Reunion Trail Ride

This is your chance to ride through some of the back country and the actual trails used during the famous Bad Rock ISDT qualifiers of the 1970's. This is where Hodaka motorcycles were designed, developed and put to the ultimate test.

The event takes off from the historic town of Weston Oregon, approximately four miles east of Athena. It's about a 50-mile course, designed to be an easy ride for someone who has not been riding regularly or who wants to protect their investment in some of those hard-to-find Hodaka parts. The club will provide a “sag wagon” at several points along the route to transport bikes with mechanical problems or bikes from riders who, for whatever reason, just don't wish to finish the course.

The course does include several sections where the route uses county roads. Special arrangements have been made with the local authorities to allow trail bikes to use these sections during the event. Other than county roads, all the off-road sections are on private property and will not require an ORV permit. Not restricted to Hodakas, we welcome all vintage (twin shock, drum brake, air cooled) bikes. All bikes will be inspected and must have a USFS approved spark arrestor. Registration fee pre-paid is $30 for nonmembers or $25 for club members. All riders must wear a helmet and are encouraged to carry their own toolkit. Participants will ride in groups for safety and to make sure there is at least one tool kit in each group. Sorry, riders only. No passengers.

You must pre-register. This ride is limited to 150 entries and will be open to all makes of vintage (twin shock, drum brakes, air cooled) bikes.

Swap Meet

Beginning Friday, and continuing through Saturday, a motorcycle swap meet will be held in the Athena city park, the center of organization for the weekend events. Participants including commercial vendors are welcome – without fee – to display and market Hodaka and other motorcycle parts and accessories.

Saturday 6/25 – Community Breakfast, Parade, Observed Trials, Bike Show and more!

Saturday includes a full schedule of activities for participants or observers. Highlights include:

Community Pancake Breakfastoffered by the Athena Chapter of the American Legion, a fundraiser for the local American Legion Chapter. Pancakes, ham, scrambled eggs, coffee and orange
Observed Trials - Novice, Intermediate, Expert and Trail Bike (stock) classes. “No stop” scoring. Hodakas and Club members only. Due to insurance regulations, you must be an AMA member, sign a liability waiver,and get a wrist band.

Sunday 6/26 - Hodaka Only MX Racing – Classic scrambles-style racing in downtown Athena on the world-famous Diamond Eye track designed by Harry Taylor. Amateurs and experts welcome. Must have racing muffler or spark arrestor. Due to insurance regulations, AMA membership is required and you must sign a liability waiver and get a wrist band. Single event and full AMA memberships will be available at the track. Racing is $25 for non-members or $20 for Hodaka Club members. $5 if you just want to ride the practice.

We have procured a limited number of rooms at the Red Lion Hotel in Pendleton for Hodaka Days attendees.

The rooms are $106 for a single King and $116 for a double queen + taxes ,etc.

There is a restaurant on site and they have a pool.

There are a limited number of rooms and the last weekend in June is apparently a busy one in the area. Book now and be sure to ask for the "Special Hodaka Days" rate.

Hodaka Days 2022 is on!

Good news for Hodaka fans!

Hodaka Days is a “GO!” During a recent Zoom meeting, the “movers and shakers” who provide the “people power” to put on Hodaka Days decided that it appears that it can be put together again!

While there ARE complications, as a group, we think we can make it happen again! While exact details are still in development, some over-all plans can be reported at this time.

We will be working to provide venues which are outdoors for virtually all activities - including the banquet/auction. We are exploring renting a towable stage to be installed in the Athena City Park for the duration of the event. We are shooting for the “normal” full slate of activities with additions such as a Celebration of the Life of Chuck Swanson (former General Manager at PABATCO), and remembrances of other notable Hodaka supporters tied to specific Hodaka Days events. Activities planned include the Bad Rock Trail Ride, Umatilla County TT(road ride/poker run), Bike Show, Swap Meet, Scrambles, Observed Trial, Seminar, Parade, Ice Cream Social (possibly at the Gem Theater – future home of the Hodaka Museum) etc., etc.

Just so you’ll know, some of the complications are potentially quite serious – such as: There is a large music festival (many thousands of attendees) scheduled in the area for our “standard” Hodaka Days dates of the last full weekend in June which has nearly tripled room rates compared to our last gathering in 2019. We’re in the process of negotiating discounted group rates at a local hotel and hope to have an announcement shortly.

NOTE: All “official” Hodaka Days 2022 announcements and updates be posted in our blog on the club web site www.hodakaclub.org. They may be reposted elsewhere, but we intend to use this blog as our primary tool to keep folks informed and up to date.

SUMMARY
